Texas Regents Also Meeting on Monday to Discuss Big 12

facebooktwitterreddit

It became official yesterday that the Oklahoma regents would be meeting on Monday to talk about their future conference affiliation. And now on the heels of that announcement, Texas has decided to do the same thing.

Texas regents will indeed hold a meeting the same day as Oklahoma, and needless to say, some very significant things could come from both of these meetings.

Although far from official, rumors seem to suggest that Oklahoma is intent on leaving the Big 12 for the Pac 12. So if that happens, then Texas has to make a decision. Will they stay and see how the Big 12 can rebuild? Or could they too be heading west like former conference foe Colorado and potentially Oklahoma?

This is just my opinion, but I think if the Sooners decided to pursue membership elsewhere, Texas will eventually decide to do the same. I could name a few rather large conferences that would certainly love to have the Longhorns. There are a lot of factors that come into play though with Texas, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

The only thing that could potentially stop anything huge from developing would be if Oklahoma decides to stay put.

I think that would persuade Texas to do the same, though I don’t think Texas will making their decision solely based on what the Sooners do. But if Oklahoma stays, Texas doesn’t really have a strong reason to leave. If Oklahoma goes, then that changes quite a bit.

Who knows what will happen during these meetings. But needless to say, whatever does happen could change the entire landscape of the major conferences.
