Conference Expansion Update: Rutgers Talking to ACC and Big Ten

facebooktwitterreddit

What a wild Sunday it was in the conference expansion world, with news breaking all over the place that could change the entire landscape of college sports as we know it.

In case you missed it, Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC is official, UConn might be next, and the Pac 12 wants four Big 12 schools.

Yeah, that’s how fast this stuff is moving.

Anyways, the newest rumor out there is that Rutgers may also be joining Pitt and Syracuse in the ACC. But the story also states that the Big Ten is an option for them as well.

It’s not really about what makes sense anymore, as let’s face it, this is all money-driven. But, to me, it would make more sense for Rutgers to go to the Big Ten. And as mentioned in this report, this was rumored to happen last year when Nebraska was added.

Still though, I could see them in the ACC. If the conference adds UConn, then Rutgers would be the 16th team, and we’d officially have our first super conference.

We’ll probably know more on this once official word drops as to where Oklahoma and Texas are headed. Remember, the regents are meeting at both schools today in order to make some type of decision.

If those two schools choose to pursue membership in the Pac 12, then this expansion process might speed up even more.

At that point, anything and everything is in play. So now, we wait.
