Conference Expansion: Report States That Missouri Has SEC Offer

facebooktwitterreddit

UPDATE: The Birmingham News is reporting that an informal agreement is in place, and that Auburn would move to the SEC East in football.

UPDATE #2: The SEC is denying this.

The conference expansion rumors continue today, as we’ve already had stories flying both ways on West Virginia. Now, it’s time for the Missouri Tigers to take center stage.

The Kansas City Star has acquired this information from a Missouri booster:

"The Southeastern Conference has an offer on the table for Missouri to join its league, and SEC officials are willing to wait for an answer from Missouri until the future of the Big 12 is decided."

This is sort of what most people expected would happen. But, now that there are conflicting reports on the West Virginia story, there’s nothing set in stone just yet.

As we’ve seen with a lot of other situations during this conference expansion process, things can change pretty rapidly.

Missouri seems like one of the better remaining choices for the SEC, considering what is going around in all of the big conferences around them. Texas and Oklahoma seem to be out of play. West Virginia was the Big East school that made the most sense. So the SEC has to start making moves.

Again, the Missouri-West Virginia combo is what we all thought would happen. Nothing’s official either way yet, although it sounds like the Missouri side is further along in the process.

We’ll see if the SEC or Missouri officially comments on this. I’m sure there’s plenty of more speculation to come.
