Well, so much for that whole “TCU to the Big East in 2012” thing. Because it has now become official that the Horned Frogs will be heading elsewhere next year.
The rumors started a few days ago, but now we know for sure. TCU will be a member of the Big 12 starting in the 2012-2013 season.
And the hits just keep on coming for the Big East.
Obviously, this is a bigger hit on the football side of things more than it is on the basketball side of things, but as we’ve said all along, football is fueling conference expansion.
When in doubt, repeat this five times: football, football, football.
Again though, this just proves how much loyalty means during this whole process. It makes so much more sense for TCU to be in the Big 12 rather than the Big East, so I completely understand why they did it. This isn’t about what’s right or wrong anymore. It’s about business.
And this expansion process will continue. Texas A&M did it. Syracuse and Pitt did it. And the list goes on and on. The shuffling is far from over.
Who knows where any school will wind up at this point. As we’ve seen with the TCU situation, saying that you’re going to join a conference in particular year doesn’t exactly mean what it use to.
Unfortunately, the Big East has learned that the hard way.
