North Carolina Sits at the Top of the AP Preseason Top 25 Poll
By Blake Lovell
In what should come as no surprise, the AP preseason Top 25 poll was released a little while ago, with a familiar name sitting in the number one spot.
Roy Williams‘ North Carolina Tar Heels once again grabbed a number one ranking in a preseason poll, as pretty much everywhere that preseason polls have been released, the Tar Heels occupy the top spot (including ours).
Just like in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll, Kentucky, Ohio State, UConn, and Syracuse rounded out the top five.
There were a few changes between the polls, such as the Florida, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Memphis order, but aside from that, things were pretty similar to the coaches poll.
Again, there is simply no doubt that North Carolina is the overwhelming favorite entering the season.
That’s not to say that no one can beat them. But when you look at the lineup from top to bottom, there just aren’t many weaknesses.
Harrison Barnes is going to be in the Player of the Year race. Tyler Zeller and John Henson are both going to have big seasons. Kendall Marshall is poised to emerge as one of the best point guards in the nation. And the list goes on and on.
So congrats to the Tar Heels for being voted number one. It’s a nice place to start.
Now they just have to prove that they deserve it when they take the court for the first time on November 11 at the Carrier Classic against Michigan State.
