Recruiting News: Memphis Gets Commitment From Shaq Goodwin
By Blake Lovell
A huge land for Josh Pastner and the Memphis Tigers today, as one of the top power forwards in the 2012 class, Shaq Goodwin, committed to the school.
The 6’8 Goodwin is ranked 19th in the ESPNU 100, and is certainly the kind of talent that could step in and make a big impact next season.
And while this a big get in and of itself, Pastner has the chance to really load up his 2012 class.
Having already landed Damien Wilson, Memphis could boast a huge class if Alex Poythress (#17 in ESPNU 100) and Jarnell Stokes (#18 in ESPNU 100) decide to join Pastner’s squad.
The Poythress sweepstakes will come to an end on Thursday, as he is expected to announce his decision. Right now, it seems like Vanderbilt and Kentucky are the top two, but that’s simply based on rumor and not an official quote from Poythress himself. So Memphis still has a chance there.
Memphis has a chance to be very good this season, but this is a great chance for Pastner to reload with even more talent.
Goodwin’s choice is fantastic news for him and his staff. Let’s not overlook that.
Clearly though, hearing the same choice from Poythress and Stokes would give them all they need to be a definite title contender next year.
