Syracuse Fires Assistant Coach Bernie Fine As New Details Emerge
By Blake Lovell
With a third accuser coming forward and an audio tape released of Bernie Fine‘s wife expressing her concern for one of the accusers, Syracuse University had no choice but to fire the assistant coach yesterday.
After these troubling twists in the story, Syracuse had absolutely no choice but to do this.
On “Outside the Lines” yesterday morning, ESPN aired an audio clip of Laurie Fine, Bernie’s wife, from 2002 where she was talking with one of the alleged victims, Bobby Davis.
If you watched, you know that it was pretty disturbing and essentially the piece of information that has put this story over the top. Fine’s own wife was concerned about the sexual abuse, but stated that she didn’t know how to stop it.
An individual is innocent until proven guilty. This new information isn’t promising though for Fine.
It also didn’t help that a third accuser came forward claiming that he was molested by Fine back in 2002 in a hotel room.
After all of this, there was too much pressure for Syracuse not to act in a very swift manner. Now the question turns to what happens next in this situation.
Although they are two separate cases that can’t be treated the same, you have to wonder if this will unfold like the Jerry Sandusky case did at Penn State in terms of victims coming forward.
Were there only three? Or were there more? If there were more, will they decide to shed light on what happened to them?
Even though Fine has been dismissed, this very troubling ordeal is far from over.
