MTSU Faces Biggest Test of the Season Saturday at Vanderbilt
By Blake Lovell
Remember back a few months ago when the team that everyone thought would win the Pac-12, UCLA, lost to a team that should have never been in the game with them, Middle Tennessee?
Well, it turns out that UCLA is not good and Middle Tennessee isn’t half bad. Ya know, since they are now 20-2 following a win over Troy last night.
Yes folks, they’re 20-2.
Sun Belt or no Sun Belt, a 20-2 record is nothing to scoff at. Their two losses come to a mid-major staple in Belmont and a UAB team that simply got the best of them. But since the loss to the Blazers, the Blue Raiders have rolled off 12 straight, including getting revenge on Belmont.
Just how good is this team? It’s hard to know completely by just basing it on their performance against Sun Belt competition.
So it’s a good thing that MTSU visits Memorial Gym tomorrow to take on Vanderbilt.
It will be the toughest challenge of the season thus far for this team, and it’ll be interesting to see how they play against a team that has gotten its act together as of late. The victory over Belmont is the only true quality win for this team right now, and they could greatly improve their stock with a win over the Commodores.
It’s a game that will be flying under the radar on a strong Saturday slate in college basketball, which is to be expected.
But for MTSU, it’s their chance to take a huge leap forward heading into the stretch run of the season.
