Jim Calhoun Taking Indefinite Leave of Absence

Breaking news in the college basketball world today, as UConn head coach Jim Calhoun has decided to take a leave of absence from the team.

It is a medical leave that is based around a worsening back condition called spinal stenosis and it is unknown when Calhoun will return to coach the Huskies.

This is unfortunate for Calhoun who has struggled with health issues in the past that have caused him to leave the team.

George Blaney will take over in the interim and try to get UConn on track as they are in the midst of a four game losing streak.

But it’s clearly a different situation for the players when the head coach isn’t there to lead them, so we’ll have to see how UConn adjusts without Calhoun on the sidelines. This is a very talented team that certainly has the potential to go deep in March, but they’ve hit a bit of a bump in the road recently.

This also has to be even tougher for Calhoun given that the Huskies are the defending national champions and want to do everything they can to defend their crown.

But of course, the important thing here is for Calhoun to fully recover before rejoining the team this season.
