Duke Beats North Carolina On Buzzer Beater By Austin Rivers (Video)

Well the storied rivalry between the Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels added another memorable chapter last night as Duke knocked off North Carolina 85-84 in Chapel Hill.
But of course, it wasn’t that simple. The Blue Devils rallied from ten points down with only a few minutes to go and got the ball off of a Tyler Zeller missed free throw with around 14 seconds to go.
From there, Austin Rivers decided to provide everyone with this shot:
Amazing. Simply amazing. It doesn’t get much more clutch than that.
The shot by Rivers was great in and of itself. But the comeback by Duke was one that fans of either team won’t forget anytime soon.
North Carolina seemed to be in complete control of the game for much of the second half and it looked as though they may even run away with the victory. That wasn’t to be though as Duke began to make plays here and there to inch closer and closer.
Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, it all culminated down the stretch with a freak tip-in by Zeller on his own basket and a missed free throw by Zeller that would have gave them a three-point lead.
But again, while Zeller may be getting a lot of the blame, you have to give a ton of credit to this entire Duke team from battling back and putting themselves in position to win the game at the end. That’s all you can ask for in a road game of this magnitude.
It was an excellent game that came down to the wire. It was exactly what we expected of a Duke-North Carolina game…..and then some.
The two meet again on March 3 at Cameron Indoor. If it’s anything like this one, it should be quite the spectacle.
