Bruce Weber Fired As Head Coach Of Illinois
By Blake Lovell
As we all expected, Bruce Weber was officially fired as the head coach of Illinois earlier today and will not coach the team in any post-season tournaments.
Illinois started the season 15-3 before finishing the year with only two wins in their final 15 games.
Yesterday’s loss to Iowa in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament clearly didn’t help matters as it eliminated any possible chance they had of making a run and getting into the NCAA tournament.
A large contingent of Illinois fans are clamoring for Shaka Smart to make the move and become their new head coach, but it remains to be seen whether he will entertain the position.
As for Weber, he should have no trouble finding another gig fairly soon given the amount of success that he had during his nine years in Champaign.
What are your thoughts on Weber’s firing? And who should be the next coach at Illinois?
