NCAA Tournament 2012: Syracuse Survives UNC-Asheville
By Blake Lovell
Well college basketball fans, we were very close to seeing a 16-seed advance past the round of 64 for the first time in the history of the NCAA tournament.
But in the end, Syracuse found a way to hold off a scrappy UNC-Asheville bunch by a final of 72-65.
The Orange got the bounces down the stretch and found a way to win despite Asheville looking like the better team for a majority of the game.
And of course, there were a few questionable calls towards the end of the game that will be talked about.
However, you’ve gotta give the 16-seed a ton of credit. UNC-Asheville had the lead at the half, and even though Syracuse made a run late, they battled back and had it close with under a minute to go in the game.
Syracuse will now play Kansas State on Saturday, and will clearly need to look a whole lot better than they did today if they want to make it to the Sweet 16.
