NCAA Tournament 2012: Norfolk State Stuns Missouri
By Mark Knight
The “madness” of March Madness has officially been ushered in with a shocking upset, #15 Norfolk State over #2 Missouri. The Spartans not only hung with the Tigers during the game, they spent the majority of the game leading. They finished with the win of 86-84.
Norfolk State saw an impressive performance from the majority of the starters. They played about as perfect as they could against one of the best teams in the country.
Kyle O’Quinn of Norfolk State was the star of the game and led both teams in scoring. He had 26 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal.
Pendarvis Williams and Chris McEachin each had 20 points for the Spartans.
Missouri played a great game but was unable to stop the hot shooting of Norfolk State who shot 54% from the field and 53% from three. Missouri had a good game from Marcus Denmon who had 20 points and Phil Pressey also had 20 points and dished out 8 assists. However, down the stretch they couldn’t put the Spartans away and win the game they were expected to win.
Norfolk State busted the majority of brackets in America and no one really saw this victory coming. They are 2012’s cinderella story. They now move on to the round of 32 and will play Florida. This is only the 5th time in history a #15 has beaten a #2.
