Hubert Davis Leaving ESPN To Join UNC Staff

It looks like Rece Davis, Digger Phelps, and Jay Bilas will be looking for a replacement on the College Gameday set next season.

That’s because ESPN college basketball analyst Hubert Davis will be moving from the booth to the bench.

Davis, a former Tar Heel, has accepted an assistant coaching position under Roy Williams at North Carolina.

The position became available after former assistant Jared Haase left the school to take the head coaching job at UAB.

As a fan of college basketball in general, I’m going to miss Davis’ work on ESPN throughout the season.

He’s one of the best analysts in the business in my opinion, which is why it should be a smooth transition for him to the sidelines. He undoubtedly has all the knowledge that you need to be a great college basketball coach and will likely be able to make an impact right away on the recruiting front.

The tradition of North Carolina basketball can sell itself in recruiting, but it certainly won’t hurt when players see a recognizable face like Davis on the recruiting trails.

As for College Gameday, well, the desk just won’t be the same without him.
