Missouri Continues Run of Point Guards, Nabs 2013 PG Wesley Clark
Few things in college basketball today are stable, but the point guard situation at Missouri may be one.
With Phil Pressey entering his junior season, the point guard spot at Mizzou is set for each of the next two years. That didn’t stop Tigers head coach Frank Haith, however, from locking down the position for the next six.
Haith secured a verbal commitment from 4-star floor general Wesley Clark late on Wednesday, marking the school’s third point guard pledge overall and second in the 2013 class. Missouri has also landed verbal commitments from 2013 point guard Travis Jorgenson and 2014 point man Anton Beard.
It’s safe to pursue other areas of need now, Coach Haith. Perhaps even a different position.
The 6-foot Clark offers a skill set similar to that of Pressey, which is why Haith accelerated his recruitment of the Romulus, Michigan native this summer. Clark’s recruiting stock blew up in July at the LeBron James Skills Academy. He continued his stellar play through the end of the month and parlayed his improvements into scholarship offers from several high-major schools.
Clark also fielded offers from such schools as Connecticut, Iowa State, Pittsburgh and USC. Regional schools including Cleveland State, Akron, Dayton and Bowling Green had been among the first to reach out to Clark prior to his rapid rise during the summer AAU season.
