Basketball Recruiting: Notre Dame, Ohio, and Richmond land commits
The South Carolina Gamecocks and Frank Martin landed the biggest fish yesterday in five-star shooting guard Sindarius Thornwell, but the Richmond Spiders, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Ohio Bobcats also landed commitments in the 2013 class.

Notre Dame landed their second in-state prospect in the class by adding under-the-radar power forward Austin Torres. The three-star Penn High standout is the final piece in Mike Brey’s strong 2013 class, which includes three other four-star prospects with recent point guard commit Demetrius Jackson being the headliner.
Torres never received an offer from a Big Six school, which helped Notre Dame land the 6’6″, 200 pound PF.
The Ohio Bobcats were able to land three-star shooting guard D.J. Wingfield, who is one of the most talented 2013 wing players in the state of Ohio. He held just one other offer in his recruitment from American, but he did receive interest from Xavier, Cincinnati, and Ohio State among major in-state schools. West Virginia, Valparaiso, and Albany also showed interest in him.
The Lockland standout is highly regarded for his handles, but he is an inconsistent shooter. The 6’5″, 180 pound SG does a good job of corralling rebounds and has above-average strength that helps him do so. Wingfield is also an excellent passer and a good three-star addition to Jim Christian’s 2013 class of three.
Richmond secured a commitment from Memphis shooting guard Josh Jones, which gives them their second Memphis-area guard commit in three years after nabbing Nashville Celtics PG Kendall Anthony in 2011.
Jones, who stars for Central HS, received offers from Murray State, St. Louis, New Mexico State, and Southern Illinois in his recruitment. TCU also showed interest in the 6’5″, 170 pound A-10 bound guard. A good passer, Jones took an official trip this weekend to Richmond and is now their first commit in the 2013 class.
