Minnesota Gophers land Alex Foster
The Minnesota Golden Gophers received their second pledge in the 2013 class yesterday after three-star power forward Alex Foster announced his decision to commit to the school. The Chicago-area recruit averaged 12 points per game last season for Seton Academy and is the 11th best prospect in the state.

Foster also received offers from Illinois, Harvard, Nebraska, Texas A&M, DePaul, Northwestern, Tennessee, Auburn, UC Irvine, Purdue, Memphis, and Wisconsin in his recruitment. Minnesota, Auburn, and Tennessee were three schools he was high on and had official visits scheduled to all of them. However, the only one he has taken so far is the one to Minnesota (last month). In two weeks, he has an official visit set at Auburn and will be traveling to his second SEC visit in November.
Tubby Smith is getting a long and athletic 6’8″ prospect who has a solid post game and good range on his jumpshot. A good scorer and shot-blocker, Alex Foster is solid in most facets of the game and does a nice job of drawing fouls. An above-average rebounder, Foster averaged 8.3 boards per game last season and is ranked by 247Sports and ESPN as the 59th best power forward prospect in the nation.
The top 250 recruit is a raw prospect overall, but he certainly has talent and can bring a lot of different things to the table for the Golden Gophers. Minnesota has two three-star Chicago recruits in this class, and there is one other three-star power forward from the state of Illinois who is high on the Gophers in Ben Moore- one of the program’s top targets in the 2013 class.
