Selection Sunday: 2013 NCAA Tournament Bracket, South Region
Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports
Selection Sunday and March Madness is upon us and it’s time to fill out the brackets, starting in the South Region.
The Kansas Jayhawks grab the No. 1 seed in the South and the second overall seed, just a day after winning the Big 12 Conference Tournament, in which they breezed through with ease, concluding with a 26-point win over rivals Kansas State.
Bill Self’s Jayhawks had a rough patch in early February, losing three-straight games to Oklahoma State, TCU and Oklahoma, but rebounded beautifully, winning 10 of their last 11.
Coach Self maintained that the losing streak was the best think to happen to the Jayhawks as it reset the team’s mindset, and it proved to be true, as Kansas won their 9th straight regular Big 12 Title, in addition to the tournament championship.
Kansas will kick off their tournament run close to home at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, the site of Big 12 Tournament.
The South Regional will conclude on March 29th and March 31st at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Here’s how the region stacks up:
No. 1 Kansas vs. No. 16 Western Kentucky
No. 8 North Carolina vs. No. 9 Villanova
No. 5 VCU vs. No. 12 Akron
No. 4 Michigan vs. No. 13 South Dakota State
No. 6 UCLA vs. No. 11 Minnesota
No. 3 Florida vs. No. 14 Northwestern State
No. 7 San Diego State vs. No. 10 Oklahoma
No. 2 Georgetown vs. No. 15 Florida Gulf Coast
