Some programs came into the season with a lot of hype because of the unknown. Freshman sensations, potential and the like made those teams not only programs that are must see picture-box viewing, but resulted in some of them earning (well, you can’t really earn something you didn’t work for) a high preseason ranking. Then there is the Michigan State Spartans. Who, you know, are ranked number one in the country and didn’t have as much time on ESPN as some of their college basketball brethren.
All of that stuff stopped when the Spartans knocked off the Kentucky Wildcats in the second game of their season. Now — with high expectations firmly stacked on top of their shoulders — Michigan State is going to look for their eighth victory in a row when they face the North Carolina Tar Heels — a team, mind you, who has not gotten off to the best start. Making the game against MSU a possible “urgent” situation for Roy Williams and his players.
