Saturday turned out to be a big day for the Florida Gators. Not because of some magnificent play on the court, but because of a little news being announced. The kind of which that might just put Florida in a great position come March. Really, even sooner than that, but the long term expectations are going to go through the roof. What I am trying to say — in the most roundabout way as humanly possible — is that the Gators have announced that former McDonald’s All-American, Chris Walker, has officially enrolled in the school and will start practicing today.

The report was broken by Kevin Brockway on the mean streets of Twitter:

The 6th ranked 2013 prospect according to Rivals, Walker’s impact should be felt as soon as he starts to actually play. Standing a legit 6’10”, being supposedly as talented a freshman as there is in the country and the fact that Florida needs some frontcourt help as soon as possible, all make the news feel like a Christmas miracle or something. Not that Chris Walker becoming eligible is a miracle, but you know, a man has to try to work the holidays into these things somehow.

Walker won’t be immediately eligible to play, however. There has been no official announcement as far as when he will be allowed to wear a pair of sneakers, shorts and a Florida jersey in an actual basketball game. Whenever that moment does come, though, expect him to make an impact from the get-go.
