The Battle for New York has finally arrived. Granted, it doesn’t have the same hype behind the catchphrase as it did before the season actually started, but it is still a pretty big deal to the two teams involved, the Syracuse Orange and the St. John’s Red Storm.
The game — because it is a game that has the city’s fandom on the line (hehe) — will naturally be played at Madison Square Garden. Fully expect there to be a sellout crowd, near insane New Yorkers cheering their hearts out and a level of drama rarely seen this early in the season. Oh, also expect there to be a good basketball game played.
How to Watch
#2 Syracuse Orange (9-0, 0-0 ACC) at (but not really) St. John’s Red Storm (6-2, 0-0 Big East)
Sunday, December the 15th
12 p.m. (noon!) Eastern Standard Time
At the World’s Most Famous Arena
Picture Box: Fox Sports 1
Should I Be Watching?
Without a doubt. Few college basketball games that are played this early are as interesting. Not only are the Johnnies looking to re-stake some form of a claim to the city, but there is also the story of Syracuse leaving the Big East Conference, going to the ACC, then coming back to play the Red Storm in a game. Really, there are many subplots to this Battle for New York — and that is without even talking about the actual game.
