2013 isn’t exactly ending the way that Louisville Cardinals fans were hoping. A tough loss to the Kentucky Wildcats is now being followed with some bluh, sad news. In a press conference earlier today, Rick Pitino announced that Chane Behanan has been kicked off the team and that Kevin Ware is likely to redshirt.
Quickly, it is horrible to hear about Ware likely missing out on the rest of the season. He was thought to be a regular member of the Louisville rotation, was just coming off the memorable — albeit sickening — broken leg that made him famous and worked hard to get back with his team. Hopefully, however, this is just a minor setback for Ware and he comes back next season even stronger.
As for Behanan, well, this is a big loss for the Cards. Whatever he did that caused him to be booted from the program will really hurt the team’s chances to make another deep run in the NCAA Tournament. Behanan is a really good player and was a vital part of Pitino’s rotation on a nightly basis.
It should be noted as well, this wasn’t Behanan’s first run in with trouble with the university, but no specific details have been announced as of yet.
Either way, let’s hope whatever has happened isn’t something that will prevent Behanan from being successful in whatever is his plans for the future.
When new details come to light we will report on them. As for the moment, though, it is just heavy in speculation, rumor and gossip. At the end of it all, though, from a basketball perspective at least, this is some really jarring news coming from one press conference.
