The Wichita State Shockers are quickly turning everyone into believers. I mean, it is pretty easy to do that sort of thing when you win all 20 games that you play and all, but this is a mid-major we are talking about. A mid-major, mind you, that is currently ranked as the fifth best team in the entire nation.
Last night saw Wichita State doing their usual deal (winning) against Illinois State. None of that is surprising at all. What may have come as a wee-bit of a shocker (see what I did there) was Tekele Cotton having the dunk of the year of this week for the day.
It should be mentioned that Tekele Cotton — who is a junior, averaging a shade under 10 ppg — is listed as being 6’2″. Which probably means that he is closer to an even six-feet-tall and that is while he would be standing on a phone book. I point that out because that dunk is insanely awesome.
As for Wichita State we are really getting to the point of the year when people are going to ask if they could go undefeated. They certainly have a chance to do so for the remainder of the regular season, but continuing that run during the Conference and NCAA Tournaments are unlikely.
Seriously, it doesn’t really happen that much anymore. So please don’t take that as fighting words.
