The Davidson Wildcats are doing it right. I mean they have no reason not to reward head coach, Bob McKillop, any which way they possibly can. But with money not the easiest thing to hurl around for the program, another nice gesture was made to make McKillop feel as appreciated as he should be.
McKillop — who could have jumped to different programs for more money a bunch of different times — was in-store for the type of recognition usually reserved for program legends. McKillop, who took the Wildcats on an amazing NCAA Tournament run during the Steph Curry era, certainly fits that criteria.
Here is the thing, Bob McKillop was already one of the most respected coaches within his own peer group. Which is nice and probably the thing a coach would crave the most, but McKillop has never been a look-at-me guy during his entire career. Getting a court named after him? Well, it is as deserved as any honor that is bestowed upon a coach.
From here on out, Davidson will play all their home games at Belk Arena on McKillop Court. Which, you know, is pretty awesome for a guy who casual fans might not know, but die-hards remember fondly for the way he showed as much class in Davidon’s Tournament runs as Curry showed skill.
Congrats to the bestest coach this side of humble river.
That river, by the way, is fictional. Don’t Mapquest it.
