Kansas Jayhawks freshman, Joel Embiid, has been a more than pleasant surprise this season. Experts did expect him to be good and whatnot, but no one expected his development to happen so quickly. I mean it’s not every season that a legit seven-foot behemoth showcases an offensive skill-set that far exceeds what it should be considering how little time that particular behemoth has played organized hoops.
With all of that being said, many have projected him to be the number one overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft. For good reason too, as not only is Embiid a legit monster, but his ceiling is higher than any character in any Cheech and Chong movie.
Naturally, that also means people just assume he will turn pro. Well, that’s until now.
Embiid talked to Jeff Goodman (I really wish it were John Goodman) before Kansas’ game against Baylor. In their discussion Embiid talked about seriously considering a return to Kansas. Embiid cites his own evaluation of his own development as a primary factor going forward, but also added that he isn’t even thinking about the decision as of this moment.
So yeah. Kansas fans, um, you may get another year of a giant, always improving (and only, really) center. Or, you know, he could be playing lip service and saying what he thinks everyone wants to hear.
But man, if he does come back for one more season Kansas will automatically be a top contender for a trip to the Final Four. Granted, that is about every year anyway, but hyperbole rules!
