5) Vanderbilt Upsets Anthony Davis and Kentucky, the Eventual National Champs
2012 was one of the greatest seasons in the storied history of Kentucky Basketball. Star players like Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and Terrence Jones. They were number one for a large portion of the season, with their lone loss due to a Christian Watford buzzer beater in December at Assembly Hall.
This Kentucky team looked better than any other in Calipari’s time in Lexington–and that’s saying something. They were going up against a Vanderbilt team that was laden with senior players and had Kentucky’s number after two close losses to the Wildcats earlier in the season.
This game was back and forth until the end, when Vanderbilt capitalized on an and-one opportunity in order to win their first SEC Tournament title since 1951.
