Bo Kimble Shoots Lefty

Okay. The cat is out of the bag now. I am as soft as a pillow. Moments like this get to me. It didn’t help that I have seen the made-for-TV movie a billion times either. So yeah, is this too high on here? Sure. But like I said, I am a big, old and chubby teddy bear.

For those unaware, Bo Kimble was besties with Hank Gathers. As the TV movie leads you believe, they were as different as any two people on the planet, but over a period of time they bonded to become more like family than friends.

Unfortunately for the entire basketball community, Gathers died in 1990 while competing in the WCC Tournament. The story itself is tragic, sad and there’s no great explanation as to how someone could attempt to glorify a young person passing.

Yet, sometimes friends’ bonds are so thick, so important, that something as silly as a basketball game can be used as tribute. That’s why Kimble used the first-round of the NCAA Tournament to pay homage to his friend.

Listen, I am not saying the TV movie has stood the test of time, but if you haven’t watched it, do so now. Then come back, re watch Kimble taking the lefty free-throw. You will cry. You will cry a lot. And it’s okay, my friend. I swear.
