The Auburn Tigers have overshadowed the early portion of tonight’s First Four. Why? Because they just hired former Tennessee coach and BBQ master chef, Bruce Pearl.
Listen, we could go into the hoopla with how Pearl got here, but you already know. The NCAA wielded their misguided hammer, the Vols reacted in a way that mirrors an ensign in Star Trek being asked to go on a mission with Kirk and Pearl was sent to college basketball coach’s equivalent of the farm, ESPN.
Now, though, now Auburn makes a big splash with this hiring. Bruce Pearl, if nothing else, is a big name and a guy who brings an immediate interest back into the program.
How do i know that? Because rock bands don’t get this kind of welcome anymore:
That’s a welcome deserved of a coach that fans think will help turn around their basketball program. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen. At least for this moment, though, Auburn wins March 18th, 2014.
