The Providence Friars are in the NCAA Tournament after making a spectacular run in the Big East Conference Tournament. Unfortunately, though, some legal news might overshadow some of the good things that come with being in the Big Dance.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, two Providence players, Brandon Austin and Rodney Bullock, are being investigated by police for an alleged sexual assault of a fellow student.
You might recall both players being suspended way back in November. Providence Friars coach, Ed Cooley, at the time would only say that the two players were being suspended for not acting like responsible student-athletes. The suspensions were for the entire season.
While Bullock is still technically with the program, Austin has since transferred and enrolled with the Oregon Ducks. Both were top-150 recruits coming out of high school, with Austin being ranked in the top-50 of the 2013 class.
According to the report, while the alleged incident happened in November, the alleged victim came to the Providence police a few weeks ago. She did, however, go to campus security immediately after the incident.
This is obviously a developing story and we don’t want to jump the gun in either direction. We will keep you posted as reliable updates become available.
