The Iowa State Cyclones have beaten the North Carolina Tar Heels in the NCAA Tournament. In, you know, humorously exciting fashion.

The game had everything. Lead changes, Fred Hoiberg, last second buckets, some shot clock shenanigans and more Fred Hoiberg (he is just that awesome).

First, let’s take a look at the winning bucket.

Next, let’s talk about the uneducated.

With 1.6 seconds left on the clock, North Carolina attempted to dribble the ball up the court and then, but only then, call a timeout. Like, um, way after 1.6 seconds of time had passed.

The shot clock malfunctioned a bit. So it did look like North Carolina had some time when they called the timeout, but the shot clock’s inability to tell time had very little to do with UNC not handling a late-game situation well.

This is not about punishing Roy Williams or the Tar Heels, though. This is about

Fred Hoiberg

the Iowa State Cyclones continuing to be all that and a bag of chips.
