Everyone loves a good mascot story, right? Well, UConn‘s mascot, Jonathan, is making the trip to the Final Four but is doing so without the pomp and circumstance of a flight from Bradley International Airport. No, he’s driving over 1,600 miles over the course of two days to support his beloved Huskies.
Well, he’s probably not driving — America actually hasn’t yet allowed canines to drive automobiles. Either way, he’s been chronicling his journey from his Storrs, Connecticut home to Dallas with some fun photos.
Here’s a photo from his stop on Villanova’s campus in Philadelphia. The Wildcats’ season came to a close in the third round of the tournament, thanks to a 77-65 loss to the Huskies.
(embedded in the tweet you’ll find a link to his stop at St. Joseph’s University, whose Hawks fell to the Huskies in overtime, 89-81, in the second round of the tournament.)
After throwing salt in St. Joe’s and Villanova’s recently healed wounds, Jonathan got out to stretch in Delaware.
When one thinks of Delaware, it’s hard not to think of this scene from “Wayne’s World.”
So, if you’re on the road and you see a Chevrolet Sonic wrapped UConn colors with a giant white Husky inside, give a honk and wish him a safe journey to the Final Four as head coach Kevin Ollie and the Huskies aim for a fourth national title.
