Sadly, yesterday we learned about Princess Lacey Holsworth passing away after her courageous battle with cancer. Then started a mourning process over the Michigan State Spartans superfan. Now, you’re about to shed even more tears as Michigan State coach, Tom Izzo, gave an emotional speech at a vigil for Princess Lacey last night.
As sad as her passing is, Lacey has inspired enough people to do things they may have not normally done. Dick Vitale is donating over 200k in her name, Michigan State students embraced the fandom of a little girl as if she was in their dorms with them, and a country gets a collective reminder that cancer is a horrible disease that hurts the families, the patient and everyone surrounding the disease. Which has, and will continue, to raise even more money to find a cure or proper treatments for the disease.
Lacey’s father has also been a class act during all of this. Despite losing his daughter, Mr. Holsworth has urged people to not let Lacey’s smile fade into the darkness and to remember her by loving unconditionally.
A memorial service for Lacey is tentatively planned for April 17 at Breslin Center. No other details are available as of this moment.
Nearly everyone’s life has been altered by cancer in one way or another. So I am going to leave this right here and assume we still care about our kids.
