Arizona Wildcats to extend the contract of Sean Miller
By Joe Nardone
Who has an overall record of 129–48 (.729) the last five years and a 63–27 (.700) mark in Pac 12 play? If you guessed Arizona Wildcats head coach, Sean Miller, you would be correct.
Now that Miller has proven to be all that and a bag of chips, Arizona would like to extend the contract of their main man in charge.
According to Doug Haller of AZCentral.com, Sean Miller will receive a contract extension that will run through May 2019, with Miller’s base salary being bumped up to $1.6 million in 2018.
The contract has to be approved by the state of Arizona’s famed Board of Regents. That vote is scheduled to happen on June 6th.
Also noted in Haller’s article are some more interesting extension notes. Most notable probably being a random benefactor looking to help the school out.
"According to Arizona Board of Regents documents, a “major university benefactor” has offered to donate 500,000 units of a Master Limited Partnership (MLP) to the University of Arizona Foundation for the purposes of supporting the university, as well as keeping Miller, Rodriguez and Byrne in Tucson.According to the documents, as of May 12, each MLP unit was valued at $35.36 for a total donation value of approximately $17.68 million. The units would be managed by Barclay’s for eight years, during which time quarterly distributions of net income on 450,000 units would be distributed for athletics operational purposes. 50,000 units would be held for non-athletics purposes, with quarterly distributions to be used at the university president’s discretion."
Units, money, and a college basketball coach’s contract extension? That seems like a really roundabout way to get him to stay. Just give Sean Miller the straight cash money or something.
