2015 recruit Jake Holtzmann commits to Denver University
By Jovan Alford
On Tuesday, the Denver Pioneers picked a commitment from 2015 forward Jake Holtzmann. This is the Pioneers first commitment in the class of 2015.
Holtzmann announced his decision on Tuesday via Twitter as he dominated this past season at Chaparral High School.
Jake Holtzmann is a 6-foot-6, 190 lbs forward that averaged 16 points and 4.4 rebounds per game last season. According to Holtzmann, he said that he also had offers from Air Force, Lehigh, Northeastern, Penn, Wofford and Wyoming.
This is huge news for the Pionners program as they finished fourth in the Summit League and ended the season with a 16-15 record. Looking at Denver’s roster going forward, Holtzmann should be able to make an impact right away when he steps onto campus. Currently on their roster, they have four forwards right now according to VerbalCommits.com.
Out of those four forwards last season, Marcus Byrd made the biggest impact scoring 7.9 points and grabbing 2.6 rebounds per game. Denver also picked up a transfer in Royce O’Neale at the forward position.
We will see what Denver can do going into next year before Holtzmann steps onto campus but if they keep on improving they could find themselves in a Summit League championship sooner than later.
