Indiana picks up Emmitt Holt for 2014 season
By Jacob Rude
In desperate, dire need of front court help, Tom Crean and the Indiana Hoosiers nabbed a commitment from 2015 forward Emmitt Holt, who will actually join the Hoosiers immediately to play in the 2014 season.
"Indiana has received a commitment from 6-foot-7 forward Emmitt Holt, Vermont Academy coach Alex Popp told ESPN.Holt was slated to play this season in the prep ranks, but Indiana — desperate for frontline help — will add Holt for this season.– Jeff Goodman"
The Hoosiers were left in desperation mode this summer after Noah Vonleh left for the NBA, Peter Jurkin transferred from the program, and Luke Fischer transferred mid-season last year. It left IU without a true center who could contribute meaningful minutes. Holt stands somewhere between 6’6″ and 6’8″ depending on where you look, meaning he won’t be able to help as a center, but will provide size and length down low.
Holt continues the list of athletic big men at IU, joining the likes of Hanner Perea already there and Vonleh from last year. With a wingspan over 7’0, he’ll be able to play the stretch four role for Crean. His senior year at Webster Schroeder saw him average 19.8 points, 14.6 rebounds and five blocks.
