College Basketball All-Decade Team of 2000s
By Jacob Rude
PG – Jason Williams, Duke
We start off with a player that played at the very beginning of the 2000s. The 2001 Duke Blue Devils are one of the more underrated title-winning teams not only of the decade but all-time. They won every tournament game by double digits, despite trailing Maryland in the Final Four contest by 22 points early in the first half.
The leader of it all was Williams. In just three years of playing, Williams racked up the accolades: ACC Rookie of the Year, National Freshman of the Year, 2x first-team All American, 2x NABC Player of the Year, Naismith Player of the Year, and many other player of the year awards. His #22 jersey was retired by the Dukies, but not before he became the school’s 6th all-time leading scorer, again in just three seasons.
