Busting Brackets Daily Dish: Oregon State makes splash
By Jacob Rude
Good morning college basketball fans! We’re that much closer to midnight madness, folks. Just hang on. We’re nearing the home stretch.
While the holiday weekend didn’t give us much news, the day after was all that more exciting.
First, the Virginia Cavaliers nabbed a three-star guard for the 2016 class in Ty Jerome. Jerome is a natural point guard who will hopefully come in and lead Tony Bennett‘s system.
Next, Oregon State completed a banner day by nabbing not one, not two, but three recruits in the same day, launching them into the top ten recruiting classes for 2015. Tres Trinkle (ESPN #45 ranked), Stephen Thompson Jr (#55), and Derrick Bruce (unranked) joined Drew Eubanks to form what Scout ranks the #9 class for 2015.
The College of Charleston finally ended their wacky, wild search for a head coach by hiring Clemson assistant Earl Grant. From the college’s website:
"Earl stood out from our list of outstanding, highly qualified candidates. As we vetted the potential applicants, the pool boiled down to just a few excellent coaches, anyone of whom would do an outstanding job. But Earl has features that place him at the top of the list.First and foremost Earl is a very impressive leader and a teacher. His positive attitude, strong work ethic and vivacious personality will have a lasting impact on our players, students, alumni and the entire college community. I am positive that his vast energy and desire for excellence will propel the College of Charleston basketball program to new heights."
Finally, Arizona State resigned head coach Herb Sendek, which we covered here at Busting Brackets.
