Rutgers Adds Top 100 2015 Guard Corey Sanders
By Alex Miller
Rutgers has picked up a verbal commitment from Corey Sanders, reports Evan Daniels of Scout.com. Sanders is a 6-1 point guard from IMG Academy in Lakeland, Florida and is listed as the #32 PG by ESPN, #16 PG by 247sports, and the #15 PG by Scout. The 4-star prospect chose Rutgers over Xavier, Memphis, Tennessee, UCF, USF and DePaul.
Sanders’ strengths according to Scout are his ability to create, his athleticism and his confidence. He could, however, improve on his decision making as he tends to force some ill-advised shots from time to time.
Sanders is the first top 100 prospect to commit to Rutgers under 2nd year head coach Eddie Jordan, who was hired in April 2013 in wake of the Mike Rice scandal. It’s the first domino to fall for a program trying to rebuild itself–Rutgers hasn’t made an NCAA appearance since 1991. The Scarlet Knights have gone a staggering 122-266 in Atlantic 10, Big East, and American Athletic Conference play during that time.

Jordan has also made a strong connection with top-20 and 5 star guard Isiah Briscoe. The in-state 2015 prospect has named Rutgers in his top 7, and while that might not mean much, it’s an important step in the right direction for Jordan to get players of this caliber to think about suiting up for Rutgers. With Eddie Jordan at the helm I think Rutgers will be a program on the rise in the coming years. After all, there’s really no where to go but up.
