Vanderbilt gets commit from four-star center Djery Baptiste

Rounding out an incredibly busy day in the world of recruiting, the Vanderbilt Commodores took home the final prize as center Djery Baptiste committed to Vandy over the University of Connecticut.

"4 -star Djery Baptiste picks Vanderbilt over UConn.– Jerry Meyer"

Baptiste talked to 247sports.com’s Jerry Meyer about his decision.

"“Well, I fell in love with the whole program, especially Coach Stallings. He can develop big men and has a lot of patience. But also the main reason I chose Vanderbilt is the education. I want to be a diplomat after I play basketball. Vanderbilt gives me a chance to be great as a basketball player and be great in life. The environment is great there, and Nashville is an unbelievable city.”"

At 6’11” and 245 pounds, Baptiste is a very large recruit to land, both figuratively and literally. However, he’s a very athletic player and in great physical condition, leading to him being a solid defensive presence. He is still a project offensively, but given his size and length, he can develop his game down low.

After missing out on forward Juwan Morgan earlier in the day, who committed to Indiana, Vandy still got themselves a big man in the middle and a key recruit for their 2015 class. Baptiste is the third recruit in the 2015 class, joining Camron Justice and Joseph Toye, a shooting guard and small forward, respectively.
