Four-star guard Eric Davis commits to Texas Longhorns

Rick Barnes and the Texas Longhorns got their first commit for the 2015 class when four-star shooting guard Eric Davis out of Michigan committed to the program.
Rated the #41 recruit by ESPN and 247sports, #52 by Rivals, and #45 by Scout, Davis is a consensus four-star player on all four databases. Jerry Meyer, the recruiting director for 247sports, spoke pretty highly of Davis’ scoring ability.
"“They’re getting a guy who really knows how to score,” Meyer said. “He’s a very good scorer off the dribble, a solid-to-good catch-and-shoot guy. He can get hot that’s for sure. He’s what I call an ‘all three levels’ scorer. He can finish at the rim and hit shots behind the arc, but what makes him the most special is his ability to score from the mid-range.”"
Defensively, Davis has room to improve, but is solid enough at using his length to disrupt passing lanes and reak a little havoc on his opponents.
Overall, Meyer sees him a step below the elite shooting guards in the class, but still sees him as a valuable asset.
"“Overall, he’s one of those guys, he’s a bottom top-50 guy, but a very good one,” Meyer said. “He has a little versatility. He probably sees himself as a point guard, and he can play some point guard, but with his scoring ability, his best fit is at shooting guard. But that means he’s a great guy to have, someone who can give you more ball-handling from that shooting guard position.”"
Versatility is always a big-time bonus anytime you can find it, so this is a great pick-up for Barnes and his staff.
