Freshman JaQuan Lyle Omitted from Oregon Ducks Roster

As anyone will tell you about the Northwest: when it rains, it pours, and for the Oregon Ducks, their season continues to be soaked with empty roster spots.

After kicking out 3 players for rape allegations, Oregon’s top 2014 recruit point guard JaQuan Lyle has been removed from the Oregon Duck’s roster according to SNY.tv’s Zagsblog.  Associate Director of Athletic Communications Greg Walker told SNY.tv, “JaQuan is not on our roster, we removed him today.”

It is unclear what happened that caused Lyle to be left off the roster, but sources claim that there was a snag in the admission process even though the NCAA cleared him.

“Something in the admission process is where the hangup is,” a source said. “I wouldn’t expect him to be part of the team, at least for now.”

The Ducks were hoping that Lyle would join forces with one of the best scorers in the nation in Joe Young to form a potent backcourt combination.  The 6’5, 215 pound point guard first committed to Louisville before signing with Oregon.

The Oregon Ducks have had a number of unfortunate incidents during the offseason that has resulted in the removal of players from the team, most notably the rape allegations that have rocked the Eugene campus.  Damyean Dotson, Brandon Austin, and Dominic Artis were kicked off the team in May when the three players were investigated for the rape of a female student on campus. As a result, Oregon has become more strict with their admissions process.

Head coach Dana Altman has not responded to media requests to explain the situation.
