Butler Bulldogs Coach Brandon Miller Takes Medical Leave of Absence

In breaking news out of Indianapolis, Butler Bulldog Head Coach Brandon Miller is taking an unexpected medical leave of absence as of today. The news was first reported by Michael Pointer via twitter.

Butler athletic director Barry Collier announced in a press release this morning that Miller would be taking a break from his head coaching duties but did not elaborate on the specific medical issue that Miller is dealing with.
“Brandon Miller has requested a leave of absence for medical reasons, which the University has granted,” Collier stated in the press release. “We are not in a position to further elaborate and we ask that everyone respect Brandon’s privacy.”

In his first season as head coach during the 2013-14, Miller led the Bulldogs to a disappointing 14-17 record, including a 4-14 record in the Big East. Miller replaced Brad Stevens who coached to the team to a NCAA Tournament berth the season before.
Former Gardner-Webb head coach and current Butler assistant coach Chris Holtmann was named interim coach today. Holtmann led the team to a school record 21 wins and earned the Big Southern Conference Coach of the Year award in 2013. �He will lead the Bulldogs first practice on Saturday, October 4.
