Kansas Guard Conner Frankamp to transfer from Jayhawks

While having a gluttony of weapons on a basketball roster could be seen as a good thing, Bill Self and Kansas saw the possible downside. Conner Frankamp, a sophomore, has decided to transfer from the program.

Frankamp came in last season as a four-star prospect as apart of the loaded class featuring Andrew Wiggins, Wayne Selden, and Joel Embiid. He still saw action in 27 games, but averaged just over eight minutes a night and averaged just 2.5 points per game. However, he did seem to find a groove late in the season, scoring 10 points in the opening round against Eastern Kentucky and 12 points in the loss to Stanford in the next round.

This year, another recruiting class loaded with perimeter talent may have deterred Frankamp. Kelly Oubre, Devonte Graham, and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk mixed with the return of Selden was enough to send the Kansas native packing.

According to ESPN, Boston College, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas were all in on Frankamp. He was regarded for having good range from three, but also able to get by defenders despite his lack of explosiveness or athleticism. Shooters will always have a place on college basketball teams, but Frankamp may now be looking at a lesser program where he’ll be guaranteed more playing time.
