VIDEO: Florida Gators lose to FSU Seminoles on an own goal
By Jacob Rude
There’s a lot of rough ways to lose a basketball game. We think this one likely ranks at the top.
With just seconds remaining and the score deadlocked at 63 the Florida State Seminoles had a chance to end the contest against rival Florida Gators in regulation. The Seminoles heaved a desperation, fadeaway three-pointer from the corner that came up short. That is, until Florida’s Jacob Kurtz helped it on.
Kurtz tipped the ball into his own basket originally with no time left on the clock. While the refs would add 0.4 seconds back, the damage was done as Florida dropped the match-up and added to their already disappointing season.
You have to feel bad for Kurtz, because this is going to be featured on Not Top 10s for the rest of the season and on. This is the Gators 5th loss in 12 games this season, a shocking record for a team that entered the season ranked #7 in preseason polls. While injuries have ravaged the roster, Billy Donovan’s young roster is suffering LOTS of growing pains this season.
The good news, it couldn’t possibly get any worse than this moment tonight. I mean, unless they played an entire game on the wrong basket.
