4. Minnesota Timberwolves
Similar to the 76ers, the Timberwolves already have the center position locked up. Nikola Pekovic was the beneficiary of a….generous contract extension and, for the next three seasons (not including this one), will be making $12 million a year. Unless David Kahn gets hired by a team and can be convinced to trade for him, there’s no chance he won’t be their starter for next year.
It’s only slightly more likely than the 76ers because they don’t have the depth that Philly does. While the Sixers have two young, talented, potential-filled centers, the Timberwolves have Pekovic and Gorgui Dieng, but while the latter has been a pleasant surprise, I think Okafor would certainly play over him.
Nonetheless, the ‘Wolves are firmly in the midst of a rebuilding process and they could choose to take Okafor to add to their youth movement. If they do find a suitor for Pekovic and possibly pair him with one of their assets to sweeten the deal, then Okafor is a no-brainer for them. Unfortunately for them, there are few GMs, if any, who will want to pay that much money to a one-dimensional center like Pekovic.
Chance Of Drafting Okafor – 15%
