2. D’Angelo Russell, Ohio State

Stats: 19.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 47.7 FG, 50.3% 3PT

Remember how impressive all of Trimble’s stats were as a freshman? Well Russell is simply that much better. Trimble was 10th in player efficiency rating, Russell is 3rd. Trimble had produced 328 points, but Russell has produced 408. Trimble’s 3.8 win shares is nice, but Russell’s 4.6 win shares is more impressive.

Even going away from comparing him to Trimble, Russell’s 120.8 offensive rating is 10th in the Big Ten while his 91.7 defensive rating puts him 7th. His 3.1 offensive win shares are tops in the conference as well.

While he was more hyped out of high school than Trimble out of college, I doubt many expected him to be the best guard in the Big Ten in his first year. He has played so well that he has moved from a mid-2nd round draft prospect to a top 10 draft pick in half a season.
