Draft Strategy:
Coming into the draft, I had the idea of building a top-notch defensive team, ideally with Shaka Smart at the helm. My first pick went down as planned with arguably the best defensive big man in the country in Towns.
I had hoped my next two picks would be some combination of Justin Anderson, Montrezl Harrell, and Winslow. Clearly, I severely underestimated Anderson and Harrell’s value as they were off the board before my second pick even came. Winslow kept with my defensive strategy.
Somewhat aborting the strategy of defense-first, I took who I thought was the best player available with Looney in round three. I knew my front court was elite level and VanVleet in round four was a great value pick. Arguably the best point guard in the nation in the fourth round? Thank you very much.
My last pick was split on three players: Cook, Yogi Ferrell, and Devon Booker. After much deliberation, I decided Cook would be the best fit as I liked the idea of having two point guards on this team and Cook has done masterfully playing off the ball this year.
