March Madness: 15 Greatest Gus Johnson Moments (w/ video)
By Jacob Rude
11. “Ohhhhh my goodnes. Young fella!”
It was a dream pairing. You seriously couldn’t script it any better. Gus Johnson with the underdog Davidson Wildcats led by the one-man wrecking crew Stephen Curry going against Big Ten perennial power Wisconsin and Bo Ryan.
At this point, the nation knew about Curry. He had already led Davidson past Gonzaga and Georgetown in the first weekend and Wisconsin was on alert. They had a full week to prepare how to stop Curry, as a result, stop Davidson.
And Curry ran wild.
He would finish the game with 33 points as Davidson jumped all over the Badgers and ran them off the floor. But no play was prettier, or got Gus more excited, than this ridiculous up-and-under, and-one, fast-break lay-up by Curry.
Which got me thinking, could a current-day Curry, candidate for NBA MVP, lead a mid-major like Davidson to the national title this year?
