2015 NCAA Tournament: Top 10 Possible First-Round Upsets
By Jacob Rude
You’re right, UCLA doesn’t belong in the tournament. You’re right, Georgetown is over-seeded as a 4-seed. And Temple and Colorado State probably did deserve to be in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. But you know what, these storylines are what make March Madness so great. Controversy is everywhere.
Putting all that drama aside, there will be some great basketball to be played over the next month. As “hard done by” as teams feel, the field is set and nothing is changing now. Basketball is set to be played, favorites are already being picked, and the upsets are already being called. Predicting the upsets is an imperfect science, and also more like throwing darts against the wall and expecting one to stick, more often than not.
Given my impeccable record through the conference tournament season of picking games (yes, that’s sarcasm), I’ll pick up some darts and throw them at the wall. And yes, I expect some of them to stick. If I throw 10 of these darts, I expect 1 or 2 of them to land.
First, to clarify what qualifies for an upset, we’ll call it any 10-seed and lower. I’m not predicting upsets in the 8/9 games, because those are hardly upsets. Sorry, but no one considers that 9-seed beating the 8-seed as a memorable upset. We’re going to keep it easy.
