4. (11) Dayton vs. (6) Providence, East Region
Why This Upset Will Happen: In some bizarre world, Dayton is the last team in the tournament, and that’s with much disrespect to the Flyers. Under Archie Miller, they finished second in the A-10, ahead of VCU and one game behind Davidson. Yet, the selection committee gave them a play-in game, which oddly will have them play a true home game. They’ll blow out Boise State to get to a Providence team that is a bit over-seeded and rip for an upset.
Why This Upset Won’t Happen: Well, the two biggest things going against them is that Dayton won’t have as much time to prepare for them, and Kris Dunn and LaDonte Hinton, who should be the top and second best players in the game. The former is the Big East player of the year and the latter averaged the most points and assists on the Friars.
